The Founder’s Table

I Stopped Waiting for a Seat at the Table. I Started Building My Own.

By Johnnie Ellison · UNBROKEN Media

Building my own table means taking the experience I already have and giving it somewhere useful to go.

For me, that includes customer-service work, collections, learning AI, creating digital resources and telling stories. Those subjects may look like separate projects at first. Through UNBROKEN Media, I’m finding ways for them to connect.

There is still work to do. This Journal is a place to explain the work, the decisions and the learning as they happen. I’m not writing from the finish line.

Start with something you can actually use

In my collections work, I documented conversations and helped transfer context to the team responsible for the next decision.

That work taught me to notice what’s missing, ask the right person, make a useful change and check that my part is done.

They matter outside that workplace, too. A digital resource needs clear instructions. A business service needs a clear scope. A creative project needs decisions about what belongs in the story and what stays private.

I can use what I’ve learned while being honest about what I’m still learning. Both can be true at the same time.

Give the next step a finish line

“Build a business” is a big instruction. A more useful instruction is: finish one thing that someone can understand and use.

That might mean explaining what a resource includes. It might mean checking a link, reviewing a draft or deciding what a service does and does not cover. Small decisions make the larger idea easier to work on.

For me, it starts with understanding the goal. Then I build a first version, check it and decide what comes next. The review matters. Looking finished and being ready are two different checkpoints.

Before the next step, I can ask:

That keeps the work concrete. A good idea deserves more than another open tab. And yes, there are plenty of ideas competing for tabs.

Let the different parts connect

UNBROKEN has room for practical tools and creative work. The business website helps people find services and resources. The Journal gives me space to explain what I’m learning. Road to Da Lat offers another way to explore the journey through personal storytelling.

You do not have to follow every part. If you came for a useful resource, it should be easy to find. If a story catches your attention, you can explore it without being pushed toward a purchase.

That is what “Every Click Tells a Story” means here: a clear purpose for the page and a thoughtful choice about the next step.

Your next brick

Take one thing you already know how to do and name one small problem it could help solve. Then define a first version you can review.

You do not need to turn every skill into a business today. Start with something specific enough to finish, inspect and learn from.

That is how I want to keep building UNBROKEN: with useful work, honest learning and room to revise.

Brick by Brick. One Step Closer. 👑💜🧱
